Cognitive, mental and emotional challenges: can we be included?

This blog is born from my desire to see everyone included in the full spectrum of life, regardless of ability, dis-ability, cognitive challenge, whatever. It appears to me that the United States is trying to move toward inclusion and acceptance of everyone. Yet, people with emotional, mental and/or cognitive challenges are frequently excluded, often without any thought to how much fuller all our lives would be with "them" included.

I put "them" in quotes because I believe we all have emotional, mental and cognitive challenges. Some are more obvious than others, some affect our daily lives more than others. What, after all, is "normal"?

I hope you will feel free to share your stories about your experiences in this arena: negative and positive. And I really hope that out of this will come momentum for change.

In my next post, I will share some of my story.
